Minecraft: Day 12 on Ulane

I decided to take a break from improving the hovel and take a stroll. Enjoyed a nice dip in the private pond by the hovel and then set out for a walk. I did not get very far when I realized there was another mire pit near my abode and I headed back, grabbed my stacks of sand and got to work. The sheep here are stupid. As I'm filling in the hole, one them jumps in next to me! I feel terrible for the guy because there is no way to get him out when that happens. Maybe I can be creative and save him, but I'm not going to be hopeful just yet.

Late afternoon, after I run out of sand, I head to the Desert Village to replenish my supply. I realize I don't have time to go sand gathering, but I am able to harvest the crops post-haste and run back to the hovel. Perhaps I'll create a lighted, fenced in pathway from my hovel to town and that will be a slightly safer way to travel to and fro.

With the sand intact, I filled in the hole. I still do not entire know the composition of the quicksand-like material, but the area by my hovel was successfully filled in. Sadly, three sheep had to lose their lives after being stuck in the mire.

Before night fell, I noticed a Sakura tree and decided that I would like some of the saplings to plant near my hovel. At this point, I believe I will turn this location into a stronghold, but I do not believe that it will be a house, with the creature comforts that a traditional home would offer. In my exploration, I hope to find a picturesque location and commence building a home there. Perhaps near a village with merchants to trade with and engage in business. That would be nice.

I made sure to get home on time tonight, as the sun was still showing orangey over the horizon. Beetroot stew for dinner, as well as some tidying up and then to bed with me.

I am not learning quickly about slaying denizens in the morning. There are still too many to handle without more protection or stronger weapons. I retrieve my belongings and find that sand in the desert will be a wonderful medium to fill the brown goopy hole near my hovel. I spend the day filling in a hole near the village, gather more sand for myself and spend another night with the good townsfolk.

As I prepare to turn in for the night, I did a quick check on the crops and some are already about 1/3 of the way complete! This is excellent news for all of us! This night, I await patiently for the dawn and then some to come before I venture back to the hovel with my stacks of sand, ready to improve my immediate area.

How I wish I had brought the texts of the former explorers with me to this place. I am slowly recalling the information from them, but it would be much more expedient if I could look it up! I remembered that light was important. At first I thought this to mean just sunlight, but it also means torchlight and a highly lauded item called a "redstone torch". I have not come across this yet, but if I do, I see why it was so invaluable. Especially since this morning was plagued with the explosive creatures in my backyard, blocking my passage from my hovel to the village. I did what I could to clean up the mess they made, but I needed to move on with my day!

Negotiations with the villagers went splendidly and I began planting at once. I have provided the village with over 20 new varieties of fruits, vegetables and grains. I am excited to see what will come of all of it! Again, losing track of the time, night fell while I was in the village and I have to stay here. The abode in which I find myself confined is that of an apiarist with hives out back surrounded by a fence. The night denizens cannot get past the fence, however I can strike at them. It does not save me from the sneaky explosive ones or the skeletons with arrows, but I can slay the zombies.

I am sad to report there are fewer villagers here than when I first arrived, but I heard no shouts this night. I do not know how to feel about that.

Minecraft: Day 8 on Ulane

I decided to sleep and continue the mining and underground exploration. The first half of the day, picking about under the stony earth of Ulane. However, I realized I needed a change of pace. I was still not finding the resources I needed and a good walking about was needed. I equipped myself with weapons and tools and headed north, parallel to the Redwood Forest to see what I could find in that direction.

I was not disappointed with my venture. There is more edibles in this world than I previously believed! While the potatoes from the desert village are excellent when cooked, my palate had been wanting a change. Root veggies, peppers and berries! I should be able to make a respectable meal out of those. Once I get that sludge pit filled in and perhaps fence in the sheep for breeding, I could even add a delicious meat variety to it!

As the sun set, I found myself atop a hill with a what I believe is a sakura tree. I have dubbed it "Pink Tree Hill" and I intend to return. However, as is with this world, I had to veritably RUN back to my hovel as the night denizens appeared. Such unfriendly creatures here. Nonetheless, I will content myself will cooking this evening until it is time to retire. In the morning, I shall visit the desert village and see if I can use their crop space. I have to means of carrying water at this time and they could use some variety in their dishes. Man cannot live on wheat and potatoes alone. Well, he probably can, but it makes for many boring meals.

Minecraft: Day 6 and 7 on Ulane

Today will be a day of resource gathering. While the stone here is useful for tools, to deal with the disgusting mire I slipped into last night will require a bucket. The notes I have indicate that there is iron and I need to obtain 3 units to create a bucket. I'm delving down into the earth, wish me luck!

Well, it turns out that being underground severely alters one's perception of time. Two full days have passed me by as I was below digging. Unfortunately, I have not come across more than 2 units of iron. I really do wish to get to the bottom of the mire mystery (although I have a terrible feeling it is sewage that we were all standing in, *shudder*). There was much copper and a few crystals in which I was able to create a grinding device that increases the output of the ores I obtain. It is an excellent concept.

It was a long few days, to bed, I say!

Minecraft: Day 5 on Ulane

Today I venture to the little lava lake that showed me such an impressive display of power versus the tree when I first emerged from the forest. Gravity...seems to work in its own fashion on this plane of existence. The trees that burned still retain the upper portion of their heighth. As a first order of business, I will begin to clear up the area. I am not sure what I can do with that open space, as the soil seems different, perhaps damaged by the fire and I don't think it would be well-suited for growing crops. Perhaps it may be good for crops here on Ulane. I'm sure I will find out.

All day was spent chopping down 2 of the seemingly endlessly tall redwoods. It was uncomfortably late in the evening when I decided to call it for the night. To my horror, the nighttime denizens were already out and a tiny ankle-biter of a zombie managed to best me.

I woke up in my bed. What a wonderful concept! I wonder why my colleagues didn't more so stress the importance of a bed. My experience is that it is one of the most vital items to have inside a secured location! I immediately ran out to obtain my goods. More denizens have now arrived and I discovered a disgusting substance that slows down movement. Myself, the denizens and the wild sheep were all caught in this mire. I must discover what that is an deal with it properly. I was not able to reclaim my items this evening, but we will rest and start the day anew. After sunrise.

Not-FLoB Revisited
Mayhem
aj_hyena
So in an effort to be more social, I've decided starting next month I'm going to go ahead and start a map walking from spawn to the edge of the map, kind of like FLoB. But I've also decided that in an effort to be friendly (and to get viewers, sure), I'm going to give out gift codes for Minecraft if I get more than 25 (curse the limit of 50) viewers at "halftime" (streaming 3 hours a night until I hit the edge).

Later I'm considering asking for donations except instead of donating to charity I'd just dump all the donations into more gift codes and award the codes to random chatters in the livestream, not making any profit. (I'd drain the donation funds every night, so if there's $120 donated, I award 4 codes during the stream, if there's just $30 or so, that's one code, etc).

Anyone know if there's anything I should be paying attention to, or if it's illegal to hold such a "drawing via donations", or...? Would I have any interest?

Let's see if I regret posting this.

As someone with no experience in running a server or being mod or admin anywhere, I decided to throw this out to the community here before committing to it. I didn't want to tell anyone before doing it so as to not have my idea stolen, but I figured, if it were even a viable idea, it would have already been done by now.

Can anyone tell me if this is already being done somewhere, or if it is even possible?Collapse )

If I were to start livestreaming a minecraft game as a regular "something to do" (1.3 vanilla); would anyone be interested in watching? I could call it "the adventures of crafter man" or something.
